TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
1). STANDARD PATTERN
A standard pattern is as the attached drawing. All parts of the upper will
be grain Leather apart from the toecap, counter and inside collar which will
be plain.
2). MATERIALS
(a). Upper Leather
(i) The Outsides excluding tongues are to be full grain side leather. Grain
or Plain. The leather should be full chrome tanned to minimum 3.5% chromium
oxide (Cr2 03) based on dry fat free leather. Leather thickness shall be
2.0 - 2.2mm.
(ii) The tongues shall be grain leather of soft nature and half bellows
design will be preshaped and also allow for easy access for the foot. The
leather will conform to the chrome requirements as defined in point (i). The
leather thickness shall be between 1.4 - 1.8mm. The tongue shall be lined
with minimum 3mm foam in its center with a strong nylon backer.
3. SOLE.
Sole- The sole is to be vulcanized directly to the upper, it should be of a
commando cleated pattern for good grip. The toe spring should be between
13 -15mm. The sole edge should be a minimum of 15mm thickness. The sole
should be heat and oil resistant. The sole will be abrasion resistant.
Insole. The insole can be of leather, leather composition, board or suitable
non-woven cellulose material. The insole should be 2.5 - 3.00mm thickness.
The insole should be capable of absorbing moisture during wear and
dispersing this after use. The insole should be suitable for the rigorous
use in combat conditions.
Hooks & Eyelets. There shall be 4 eyelets fitted below the vee quarter cut
and 1 above. These shall be brass or steel, of either the double type or
fitted with a back washer. There shall be 4 hooks above the eyelets of steel
or suitable strong metal. All eyelets and hooks shall be corrosion
resistant.
Heel Core. The heel core shall be fiberboard, Light wood or moulded
composition.
Toepuffs. The toepuff is to be fitted between the upper and lining at the
toecap. It should be solvent activated abd be 3.0 -3.2mm thickness. It
should give a rigid shape retention of the toe of the boot.
Insole heel. Where a leather insole is used, the back part of the insole
should be reinforced by a moulded fibre board backer which will support the
insole and keep shape retention.
Threads. Upper threads should be polyester / cotton 3 cord number 20
(metric). The stitch type should be lockstitch. Where chainstitch side seams
are used they must be waxed into position and be in linen 18/5 cord. Chain
stitching is not recommended as being a single thread; these can be pulled
from the sea. Sulphur diestuffs should not be used.
Laces. Laces should be nylon, tubular, they should be 2-10cm in length, Have
tagged end have a breaking load of minimum 600N.
Collar. The collar should be of smooth soft leather; it should be minimum
25mm in
width, have foam fitter under of minimum 4mm thickness.
Back Loop. The back strip should be fitted with a loop at the top, this
should be
25mm wide and a depth of 40mm.
Colour. The boots and laces will be black in colour.
Sizes. The boots will be available in sizes 5 - 12 in full sizes. Fittings
should be available if required. At certain times larger sizes will be
required upto and including size 15.
